In partnership with Docklands Light Railway, CWC developed a new station to replace the old, partially demolished Heron Quays Station. All of the structural erection was undertaken in nightshift engineering hours, with two thirds of the steel frame erected by tower crane in advance of the air-rights building launch above. The southern third was erected by installing runway beams to the underside of the air-rights building, sliding out the assembly platform on tracks at ground level, and then hoisting the steel station frame into position.

The platform hull was created using spray-on concrete to form acoustic insulation, covered with aluminium tiles. Once the air-rights building construction had started, there was no direct crane access. So, to facilitate handling of the platform structural elements, we used smaller crane systems, in conjunction with designed lifting-points which were pre-engineered into the trusses above.
